National meetings in Estonia, Poland

Several National meetings were held at the end of the year 2016 organized by the project partners who represent the National Authorities for the MSP.

Please get short insight about few of them held in Estonia and Poland.

ESTONIA

There were three national meetings with the stakeholders from energy, transportation, shipping, and environment sectors met to discuss the goals of each sector as well as possible synergies, conflicts, and cross-border matters.

The discussions were lead by the national thematic experts from Tartu University.

As a result, the descriptions of the sectors, that included the current status and main long-term objectives, were created, updated and sent for feedback. These also served as a basis for the cross-border thematic meeting in Riga in December. The status reports of sectors will also be the basis for the terms of reference for initiating maritime spatial planning in Estonia.

POLAND

The main purpose of the meeting was to inform the Polish authorities and main operators about ways of thinking about issues of cross-border use of marine space among Polish neighbors. At the same time to identify of key issues and areas of cross-border spatial conflicts from the point of view of Polish, which needs to be discussed at international forum. Also, to determine what knowledge about what is happening or what is planned in other countries is needed from the point of view of Polish interests at sea and MSP process in Poland.

The overall conclusion is that there is a great need for interdisciplinary discussions on strategic decisions concerning the functioning of Polish marine areas in the future! and a great need for this type of discussions.
